Tabaknee wordt steeds meer comedy

Dr Farsalinos heeft als antwoord hierop een brief gestuurd die mede is ondertekend door 82 andere experts, en deze is gepubliceerd in eureporter.

In dit recente artikel proberen ze modder te gooien maar wie goed oplet ziet de absurditeit.

Zelfs Simon Chapman durft niet te beweren dat vapes, heat-not-burn en nicotine zakjes even schadelijk zijn.

Je huis verwarmen met een kampvuur op de salontafel is natuurlijk even schadelijk als verwarmen met een elektrische CV installatie.

De brief protesteert tegen plannen van de Europese Commissie om de accijns op deze alternatieve nicotineproducten min of meer gelijk te trekken met traditionele tabak.

De aandeelhouders zullen heel blij zijn met dit plan.

In een recent interview op de Roemeense website Digi24, waarboven staat dat het is betaald door Philip Morris International (PMI), geeft Farsalinos de vaste argumenten van de tabakslobby voor schadebeperking.

Dus als iemand door een bedrijf wordt geïnterviewd spreekt hij gelijk voor dat bedrijf. Ok, duidelijk.

En dan de grootste parel.

Onder de kop ‘Mythes over nicotine en het gebrek aan dialoog met het publiek, grote obstakels voor tabaksbestrijding’ stelt Farsalinos dat het niet de nicotine is die sigaretten schadelijk maakt, maar de teer uit verbranding en dat consumenten toegang moeten kunnen hebben tot wetenschappelijk gefundeerde informatie over minder schadelijke alternatieven voor sigaretten.

Ja, het volk mag niet weten dat deze producten minder schadelijk zijn. stel je voor dat het volk hun leven red zonder hun toedoen.

Farsalinos was in 2020 samen met onder anderen immunoloog Jacques Le Houezec en hoogleraar Volksgezondheid Anastasia Barbouni, beiden ook ondertekenaars van de open brief, auteur van een artikel waarin de hypothese werd opgeworpen dat roken zou helpen tegen Covid-19.

Nope, de hypothese was dat nicotine zou helpen, en ze raden roken absoluut af omdat de schadelijke neveneffecten zwaarder wegen dan de positieve effecten.

Onvermeld bleef dat Fagerström door Philip Morris International (PMI) en British American Tobacco (BAT) werd betaald voor hulp bij de ontwikkeling van tabaksalternatieven en dat hij in ieder geval in 2018 als adviseur verbonden was aan het grootste Zweedse snusbedrijf Swedish Match, dat in 2022 werd overgenomen door Philip Morris.

Tijdlijnen zijn vaak lastig, daarom laten ze weg dat fagerstrom nicotine zakjes en diverse andere heeft ontwikkelt voordat zijn bedrijf Niconovum werd overgenomen door BAT.

Dit gaat zo nog even verder, maar recent hebben ze wel hun ware aard laten doorschijnen in dit artikel.

Hoewel de absolute accijnstarieven kunnen verschillen, moet een vergelijkbare belastingdruk voorkomen dat gebruikers overstappen van het ene product naar het andere.

De grootste lobby voor de tabaksindustrie zijn zij zelf, en ze hebben het niet eens in de gaten.

Naar aanleiding van de tweet zijn er ministers geweest die om opheldering hebben gevraagd.

In the light of this statement, can the Commission clarify the following:

• 1.Which nicotine products does it consider ‘new’?
• 2.What studies or scientific data is this statement based on?
• 3.Is this the official position of the Commission or is it the Commissioner’s personal opinion?

1. The statement by the Commissioner for health and animal welfare was made in the context of the proposal for the revision of the Tobacco Taxation Directive (Council Directive 2011/64/EU) published on 16 July 2025. The full text of the statement reads: ‘For the first time ever, we acknowledge that new #tobacco and nicotine products pose health risks comparable to traditional ones. With new market developments and the need to protect future generations, rates should be further assessed’. In this context, ‘new tobacco and nicotine products’ referred to those products that have not yet been specifically regulated under the Directive, such as heated tobacco, e-cigarettes and nicotine pouches.

 

2. There are no safe levels of tobacco or nicotine consumption, and new products have increasing popularity, especially among young people. The Scientific Committee on Health, Environmental and Emerging Risks, for example, underlined the negative health effects associated with e-cigarettes . Besides the intrinsic public health risk these products represent, they also have the potential of opening the ways towards conventional smoking. Harmonising tax rules across the EU and introducing minimum rates for such products will allow for better controls, while giving flexibility to Member States to adapt their taxation rules in line with market developments in their country. The increased tax will also help to reduce their attractiveness as tobacco substitutes.

 

3. It is the official position of the Commission.

Ze willen voorkomen dat rokers overstappen op minder schadelijke alternatieven, en bewijsmateriaal is niet nodig want het is de officiële positie van de commissie. 

Alle wetenschap is irrelevant, alleen het scheer raport telt.
